One of the more impacting factors in this process is the increased amount of outsourcing which has an effect on supply chains (Rogers 59). Logistics systems are often in a state of flux and change as the global market changes (Rogers 59). All logistics systems are driven by the needs of customers, which include timely deliveries, accurate fulfillment of orders, high quality of goods, competitive prices and affordability (Rogers 59). Logistics has become more complex partly because companies are using third- and fourth-party logistics companies for shipping, i.e., forwarding freight (Rogers 59). The primary reason is the increasing globalization and the uncertainties it brings with it. Writing for the World Maritime News, DeSimone reported that globalization is not going to go away. Trade will continue to grow between countries, which acts as a growth factor in any nations economy (DeSimone). New technology as well as improved transportation options are driving this phenomenon (DeSimone).
