the premise that earning less than $1.00 per day equals poverty across the world. Poverty levels must be determine within each nation. As this author points out, poverty levels must
be related to how much it costs an individual or family to have a sufficient amount of food, housing, and clothing to maintain good health. That amount is different in
each country, in fact, it is different in regions of the same country. another fact this author points out is that even if poverty has declined across the world, that
does not mean that inequality has also declined. Those who argue that globalization has reduce poverty and has also reduced inequity are na?ve at best and deceitful at worst.
By using statistics to suit their own purposes, these folks are promoting inaccurate information to the world. Poverty levels are much higher that what is being reported and inequity has
risen. Wade uses different data to reach his conclusions, which are that globalization has not decreased poverty or income inequality, in fact, both have become more pronounced as globalization has
risen. In his study, Wade found that the more a developing country participated global trade, the greater was the inequality of income but the more a developed country participates
in global trade, the less inequality there is. At this point in time, many Americans would not agree with this conclusion although Wade does say that there are "absolute income
gaps" (p. 16). The author also suggests that the proportion of people living in poverty has probably declined across the world since the 1980s. While the data regarding poverty
