industry? No matter what kind of spin is put on this debate, American workers have been losing their jobs for decades all due to outsourcing. As this paper is written
unemployment rates have escalated, we are in a recession and major media pundits suggest our economy is only going to get worse. Outsourcing as a topic of debate gained fuel
in 2004 when suddenly the outsourcing did not just affect the everyday worker, laborers and blue-collar workers, but began affecting the white-collar worker. An example on one side of the
controversy was Carly Fiorina, CEO of Hewlett-Packard who said: "There is no job that is Americas God-given right anymore" (Heffes 2004, p. 31). Otterman (2004) offered a different viewpoint -
when this country is approaching or in a recession "is not the time to be sending jobs overseas." This same author pointed out that the number of jobs outsourced or
offshored has increased dramatically since 1999 or 2000 (Otterman). We should clarify an important distinction regarding the term outsource and its derivatives. Outsourcing means a company does not make
certain parts of products or the entire product; they contract it to another company, which could be another American company. Offshore or offshoring means that component or product is made
in a foreign country. The term outsource or outsourcing has become a synonym for offshore or offshoring. When jobs are sent to countries where wages are lower, it is referred
to as offshore outsourcing (Otterman). Offshore outsourcing "leads to layoffs and dislocations for thousands of U.S. workers" (Otterman 2004). However, this author reports that most economists argue that in the
