reported the significant increases in the amount organizations spend on technology to manager information and knowledge. This author points out that it is the microchip and the computer that are
the core of knowledge and information. This is true across industries (Dunning, 2000). Over the last two decades a number of developing countries have increased trade and their own
economic standing. These include Latin America and Asia. GNP increased significantly in South-East Asian countries, East Asian and Latin American nations (Dunning, 2000). Patel and Pavitt (1991) report that
the use of technology is a valid determinant of trade in any given nation, at least when it concerns OECD countries (This is the acronym for the Organisation [sic] for
Economic Co-operation and Development, which has 34 members). In terms of upward or downward trends, Japan has the strongest upward trend and the Netherlands and the UK and U.S. have
the weakest (Patel and Pavitt, 1991). Surprisingly, organizations do not necessarily use their technology in foreign countries to the extent one would expect (Patel and Pavitt, 1991). The host
countrys use of technology does have an impact on market shares of national organizations (Patel and Pavitt, 1991). Italy, Canada and Sweden all have an advantage in terms of technology
but with capital goods, they technological activities are not concentrated (Patel and Pavitt, 1991). The Netherlands and Japan share similar technological advantages but activities are concentrated in items such as
