in helping a new Cuban president establish a more democratic and economically expansive presence. Castro, a lawyer who was determined to overthrow Batistas autocracy, was initially the hero in his
followers eyes but ultimately became the enemy when, after he took political control as Prime Minister, he embraced Communism. Ironically, the crux of Castros involvement in the Cuban Revolution
was to re-establish Cubas human rights. Believing the Cuban Revolution "was made possible through the sacrifices of the Cuban people" (Anonymous 39), he initially had his peoples best interests
at heart; however, he soon demonstrated a different set of values after he took political control when he espoused Communism. Castro supported the political theories of Karl Marxs, particularly
those found in The Communist Manifesto, which speaks directly to the nature of society. "Then one day a copy of the Communist Manifesto-the famous Communist Manifesto!-fell into my hands
and I read some things Ill never forget...What phrases what truths! And we saw those truths every day!" (Castro). With limited interpretation, the student is able to understand the
