is the idea that people have to pitch in to create a better world, and that is at the heart of globalism. Ritchie defines it as follows: "...globalism is the
belief that we share one fragile planet the survival of which requires mutual respect and careful treatment of the earth and of all its people. Globalism, like all values and
ethical beliefs, requires active practice in our day-to-day lives. Communications to foster understanding, sharing of needed resources on the basis of equity and sustainability, and mutual aid in times of
need are three central features of activities that undergird globalism." There is nothing wrong with globalism. It is an ideal that sees everyone on the planet getting along well. Globalization
however is the concept that is often criticized. Globalism, on the other hand, is desirable. At the same time, there are nationalists who believe that nations should be separate. This
is particularly true when those in certain countries have extreme points of view about morality and consider other nations simply "wrong" and not deserving of sovereignty. The idea that
is bandied about in recent American presidential campaigns is that patriotism is important. The politicians repeat the notion that America is the greatest country in the world. In fact, Barack
Obama has been criticized for not considering America to be better than other nations. However, if in fact anyone wants to elevate one nation to that "greatest" position, suggesting it
is better than everything else, there is a lack of acceptance of globalism. At the same time, without treading on patriotic ground, globalism is something that does make sense. At
