for these women and their families. This type of migration is aligned with globalization and global interdependency for a number of reasons. In the work, Michele Gamburd writes a piece
entitled "Breadwinner No More." In this writing, she begins by talking about how Sri Lankan women go abroad to work, and then send money back home to their families (Hochschild
& Ehrenreich, 2004). In this piece, the author explains that when women leave a community to work, it changes the regions in which they were raised. (Hochschild & Ehrenreich, 2004).
This is not surprising. When women work at all, it changes things. However, when they leave their homes to go abroad to make good money, the entire dynamic will change.
A similar situation occurs in the U.S. when men go to the states to make money and send it to their families who remain in Mexico. Yet, the example shown
by Gamburd is more compelling because gender issues are involved as well. In this global world, where some nations are richer than others, it creates an unfair dynamic. People immigrate
for money. When women do it, it sets up more problems because the gender dynamics change. Either way, it is indicative of a serious social problem. In delving into this
issue, it should be noted that many women who leave their nations do so to become nannies for rich Americans. Susan Cheever writes the chapter called "The Nanny Dilemma." She
begins by saying that "behind every great woman theres a good nanny" (Hochschild & Ehrenreich, 2004, p.31). Interestingly, it does seem as if migration has served the nanny population so
much so that many women who were to be candidates for high level positions in government were rejected due to their "nanny problem." One problem with hiring these immigrants are
