The concept of global warming has been controversial ever since it was first broached in the 1970s. This is not surprising given that
it is a topic with significant political and economical implications. The thesis must be presented, however, that not only is global warming a very real phenomenon, it has the
potential to impact our world much more deleteriously than it would be impacted if the needed industrial and political changes were mandated that would make our world more sustainable.
Many believed that global warming has a direct relationship with globalization (Friedman 382). As one country after another transitions from its
transitional lifeways to heavy industry and consumer dependent lifestyles global warming grows more and more concerning. Numerous environmental changes that have been observed over time seem to suggest a
serious disruption in the physical and chemical processes upon which the earths ecology is based. One of the results of this is a change in biodiversity. In "Field
Notes from a Catastrophe" author Elizabeth Kolbert, provides data from the Antartic ice core that suggests that the earth is warmer now than it has been in some 420,000 years
