time. The issue hits the press with a flurry it seems every few months. There are, however, many skeptics as to the validity of global warming and its
projected impacts. Virginia legislatures, however, are just a few among thousands across the nation that take the threat of global warming very seriously. A recent state report affirms
that global warming is a real phenomena and could in fact become a threat to the state (Springston, 2007). The thesis can be presented, however, that:
global warming is a phenomena that has been stretched out of proportion by politicians and others who have
launched a quite effective campaign of misinformation and rhetoric The recent jockeying that occurred in
the between Virginia Senator John Warner (Republican) and former Idaho Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman James Inhofe (Republican) for the prestigious seat on the Senate Environment and Public
Works Committee (Keene, 2006) is just one testament to the political nature of this and other environmental topics. What we have surrounding the issues of global warming is a
belief, a belief that is shaped "by a dance of emotion and reason" (Colborn, 2007, 68). If we remove ourselves temporarily
from the politics surrounding the issue of global warming, it is still easy to assume that the earths climate is changing and that some of those changes could have a
long term impact on the earth as we know it today. Many contend that some of those changes, in fact, are already unfolding.
