being crumpled by the force of civilization crashing into it" (p.42). In part, changes in the environment can help scientists prove the existence of global warming. Sometimes, proof comes
in the form of changes in land areas or in the observation of changes in how animals live. Some obvious signs are seen in the Arctic as increasing temperatures reveal
a number of spots associated with melting ice ("Global Warming Science," 2006). Other warning signs do include the shifting of plants and animal life as well as the witnessing of
earlier springs ("Global Warming Science," 2006) There is also other evidence in the form of changes in weather patterns. A student writing on this subject notes that global
warming is an international problem. This is obvious as the earth shares the properties of the planet and country dividers mean nothing to nature. Evidence of global warming is something
that needs cooperation from countries worldwide. It does not exist in a vacuum. That said, because global warming is clearly a global concern, should an organization like the United Nations
address the issue on a worldwide basis to assure that all nations adhere to a standards of pollution regulations and controls? Or, should each country do what it can in
its own behalf? First, it should be said that the United Nations has been proactive on the environmental front. For example, in October of 2008, it would call for something
termed a "Global Green New Deal" (Green, easy and wrong; Climate change," 2008, p.15). Of course, the UN can provide some semblance of a reality check, and offer suggestions, but
