warming or climate change? How much does our average temperature need to increase to be considered warming? There are many people who claim that the entire issue of global warming
is a hoax. Some suggest any changes in the climate are nothing more than cyclical in the history of the earth. Do scientists who argue the climate is definitely changing
offer any empirical evidence for their claims? For example, is there any change in any species? This essay is an information report of what scientists are claiming. It is not
an argumentative essay to support or not support the premise that the climate is changing. An article in the Encyclopedia of the Earth states that global warming is
the phrase adopted to describe the warming of the surface of the Earth (Nodvin and Vranes). The temperatures must be documented over years. The Earths surface temperatures have been recorded
since the 1880s (Nodvin and Vranes). Major reputable institutions have reported the changes in the temperatures, for instance, the World Meteorological Organization reported that the warmest decade on the books
was 1998 to 2007 (Nodvin and Vranes). The annual average temperature between 1961 and 1990 was 57.20 degrees Fahrenheit, the annual average in 2007 was 0.74 degrees Fahrenheit higher (Nodvin
and Vranes). This same organization reported that the ice on the Arctic Sea was the lowest ever in 2007 (Nodvin and Vranes). The decrease in the ice opened up the
Canadian Northwest Passage for the first time in history (Nodvin and Vranes). Another report about sea levels states that they have risen "by 20cm" (King 2004, p. 176). The National
