with perfect accuracy, there are certain global trends in regard to education that are likely to continue and expand over the course of the next five years. The following examination
takes a general perspective on the educational arena and what the next several years may hold in the way of further evolution and development of the trends that are evident
at the present. The trends include the move toward global education, the movements of students across international borders and the spread of information that is facilitated by digitized forms of
communication and the worlds network of libraries. While education continues to evolve on many fronts, the concept of global education is principal among those trends that are currently evolving.
The term "global education" generally refer to the "insight, ideas, and information" that enables students to see past the boundaries of local and national customs (Pike, 2000, p. 64).
It is through such an appreciation that students develop the ability to consider multiple viewpoints in regards to major issues. Such a perspective involves students being able to understand differences
in worldview, ideology and emphasis, which, in turn, leads to comprehension of subtle differences in meaning (Pike, 2000). Particularly in Great Britain and Canada, practitioners of global education see
this topic as integrative, that is, as a "vehicle for synthesizing hitherto unconnected elements in the curriculum and the school" (Pike, 2000, p. 64). However, worldwide, this approach to
education is spreading and is likely to continue over the next five years. Attbach (2002) comments that internationalization is a major trend in higher education and that the elements
