technology the world has been referred to as a global village. This term is a direct reference to the way in which geographical barriers are falling. This is facilitating international
trade; as such it is unsurprising that there are many opportunities for the active management of a global supply chain. The use of suppliers in different countries has been seen
for centuries, with the value created explained by the concept of comparative advantage. With increasing pressures from the markets as well as the potential value that is offered by
global suppliers there is an increasing need and desire for many firms to develop a global supply chain. However, this is not without its problems; there are many barriers that
still exist, from communication to the transportation of the goods. For a firm to be able to develop an efficient and effective global supply chain and then gain the maximum
benefit from the potential value the firm needs to clearly understand the concept of the global supply chain, the benefits it may offer and be able to identify the best
