were already airborne, waiting for several different important U.S. targets. It was a tragic day that no one in the world will forget for some time. However, September 11, 2001
is an example of what the world had been warned about many times. In 1998, for example, the U.S. government told American citizens that they were potential targets for terrorists
financed by the now infamous Osama bin Laden (Eland, 1998). However, many did not think he, or any other terrorist, would be capable of orchestrating the tragedy that leveled
the World Trade Center and took many thousands of human lives. Like rebellious teenagers, Americans thought they could not be touched, especially on their own turf. In analyzing the events,
there are some who contend that America had it coming for its imperialistic policies, its arrogance and its manipulation of other nations. And then there is the predominate way of
thinking which is that no one deserved that. Because the terrorists have acted in such an awful manner, they should be punished and their motives are not even relevant. Yet,
the view that suggests the reasons behind the attack is significant is related to the idea that there is global stratification. In fact, stratification is likely a significant catalyst in
this attack against America. In respect to stratification, Farr (2003) explains: " the patterns of inequality between the countries and the peoples of the world that have occurred, in part,
because of globalization." He explains that while sociologists largely looked at stratification that is something to occur within nations, or within small groups, the new world order and globalization
