A 3 page research paper that addresses female genital mutilation (FGM) as an ongoing global justice issue pertaining to women. Throughout the globe, women are still discriminated against and are cast into the role of second-class citizens, but on a more basic level, women -- worldwide-- are routinely the victims of institutionally sanctioned violence. In other words, it is considered "normal" to beat women, use them as little more than beasts of burden and mutilate their bodies -- all in the name of male dominance and privilege. In examining this issue, the most compelling issue of global justice in regards to women concerns the most basic of human rights, the right to body integrity. In the name of "chastity" and "purity" -- and despite new laws and UN prohibitions -- the practice of female genital mutilation is still ongoing in numerous countries. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

is still ongoing in numerous countries. Often referred to as "female circumcision," this term is inaccurate as it suggests that this procedure is similar to male circumcision. A
circumcised male still enjoys sex and there are no serious side effects to this procedure if it is done under sterile conditions. If an operation equivalent to female circumcision
were performed on a male, it would involve cutting off his penis completely, not just snipping off the foreskin. This is why the more accurate term of Female Genital Mutilation
(FGM ) is employed by the UN and the World Health Organization (WHO). FGM is practiced in several degrees. All FGM procedures cut off the girls clitoris making
impossible for her to ever derive any enjoyment from the sexual act. This practice is suppose to ensure that women remain chaste and/or faithful to their husbands. The procedure, of
course, also makes it impossible for these women to enjoy marital sex, as any sort of sexual intercourse becomes an ordeal of pain. The most severe form of FGM is
