percent of the financial institutions reported a security breach from outside the organization in the last year; tat is considerably higher than the 26 percent in the 2005 study (Deloitte, 2006). * 49 percent reported internal breaches, up from 35 percent in the last study (Deloitte, 2006). * 25 percent of companies in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications industry reported external breaches and 25 percent reported internal breaches (Deloitte, 2006). * 17 percent of life sciences and health care companies reported external breaches and 9 percent reported internal breaches (Deloitte, 2006). The concern about data security is global. A survey in Great Britain indicated information breaches are also on the rise and at least half of those breaches were classified as serious (BBC News, 2006). The survey found that less than one-third of the 1,000 companies queried encrypt data they receive (BBC News, 2006). Twenty-five percent of the companies said they have at least one breach attempt each day (BBC News, 2006). Most of the attacks were in the financial industries (BBC News, 2006). These data reflect the need for security in all corporations and organizations. The need is not diminishing as time passes, instead, it is dramatically increasing. Hackers are extremely clever, sometimes so much so, it seems any type of electronic data and information is highly vulnerable to breaches. The Global Security Market and Trends This is a growing and strong industry. The Security Industry realized aggregate revenues of $150 billion by the end of 2005 (Security Growth Conference, 2005). Annual growth in this industry is 8 to 9 percent and is expected to continue this growth pattern through 2010 (Security Growth Conference, 2005).
