power or intensity. The story of the disintegration of Willy Loman, a man beaten down and discarded by society, resonates with everyone. David Mamets play Glengarry Glen Ross is also
the story of a salesman, another apparent loser whos about to put on the scrap heap. He too is battling to hold onto his job and his self-respect. This paper
compares the use of naturalism and realism in the two plays, and argues Shelly Levene and Willy Loman are realistic characters, but substantially different. Discussion It has to be said,
because its overwhelming: Mamet has peppered his play with the word "fuck" and its buddies "fucked" and "fucking" to such an extent that we are forced to pay attention to
the language, and ask why hes done this. In one speech, it occurs so often that the speech itself starts to turn comic, even though its serious: "Marshal the leads...marshal
the leads? What the fuck, what bus did you get off of, were here to fucking sell. Fuck marshaling the leads. What the fuck talk is that?
What the fuck talk is that? Where did you learn that? In school?" (Mamet, p. 4). All the characters are extremely foul-mouthed, though Aaronow swears somewhat less than
the others; interestingly, he is also probably the weakest character. What is Mamet doing by drenching his audiences in the F-word? At first it is surprising, because most offices dont
condone this kind of language. We might expect it if the play were set in a barracks or a jail, but its not-its set in a real estate office. Once
