in the past few decades. Once believed to be an important construction that would bring electricity and water to many surrounding areas, it has slowly become the scene of controversy
because it is essentially destroying the environment in which it rests. The dam has created the infamous Lake Powell which is a wondrous site in itself, but still something that
apparently is doing more harm than good. Edward Abbey wrote "The Monkey Wrench Gang" back in 1975 and it quickly gained the attention of many who would desire that
mankind not destroy the natural balance of our earth. Over the years people have taken this work very personally and used it as much of the foundation for the passionate
battle against the dam. The following paper examines the environmental conditions related to Glen Canyon Dam before and after the writing of Abbeys work. It is because of Abbeys book
that the environmentally concerned have attacked the dam and it is because of this that the damage done by the dam is more thoroughly explored by government officials. In essence,
Abbeys book brought people to a point where they were educated about the damaging nature of the bridge, and it was his book which has caused many to look more
closely at how and why the dam was built. Glen Canyon Dam One of the most powerful elements, or perspectives, in
