birth of a glacier. In order for glaciers to form, there are certain conditions that must be met, obviously low temperatures that allow for an accumulation of snow being
the primary condition. Furthermore, there must be precipitation. Glaciers have been a part of the earths history or over two million years, and therefore they have had a
huge impact on the formation of the earth. There have even been cold epochs in history where much of the surface of the earth was covered by glaciers, but
warm epochs followed that left glaciers existing only at the poles. And yet, the influences upon glacial formation are extremely varied,
once the basic conditions have been met. To fully understand glaciers, it is imperative to understand the complexity of their causes. The impact of these glaciers upon the
earth continues to be a dramatic force, and there has been much controversy and concern regarding the diminishment of glaciers in recent history. Many contend this is evidence of
global warming, which in itself is a topic of controversy and debate. In the end, glacier formation is a vast topic
and one that scientists continue to investigate. There are few clear answers on this subject, although scientists continue to gain more detailed insight into this matter. Glaciers provide
insight into our collective past as well as indications about the future, and in this way are extremely valuable for scientific study.
Furthermore, glaciers and glaciation are important for a variety of other significant reasons as well. There are many locations that rely upon glaciers for their water supply, especially
