their culture or community. These two men, Gilgamesh and Enkidu, are men that people admire, yet they are also men that the people fear and perhaps even despise, especially in
the case of Gilgamesh. In the work Oedipus Rex there is a quote that can be applied to Gilgamesh as well as Enkidu, if not also applied to many
historical or powerful characters. The quote (provided by the student requesting this paper) is as follows: "Men of Thebes: look upon Oedipus. This is the king who solved the famous
riddle and towered up, most powerful of men. No mortal eyes but looked on him with envy, Yet in the end ruin swept over him. Let every man in mankinds
frailty Consider his last day; and let none Presume on his good fortune until he find Life, at his death, a memory without pain." What we see here is a
plea to not judge a man until you have walked in his shoes perhaps, as well as a plea to not criticize someone elses life or actions unless they themselves
can find peace and happiness with their own life as they lay dying. With this in mind the following paper examines how the characters of Gilgamesh and Enkidu were characters
who others looked upon with envy, and characters who others judged for their actions and essential character. The paper looks at Gilgameshs and Enkidus strengths and weaknesses in order to
