in August of 2001. Yet, there was a tremendous change which affects primarily the people of New York, but also the people of America. In fact, the event affects the world. Still, those in the thick of it--who lived in lower Manhattan at the time--would feel the brunt of the attack as they lost loved ones, pets, or their homes. Those who lived in other parts of Manhattan were also worried about the people in the affected sections. The whole city suffered economically and psychologically in the initial days, something that continues to linger. And while the New York metropolitan area suffered a great deal in terms of job loss and its overall economy, Americans felt their pain as they watched events unfold. George Bush led the country out of its funk where after a couple of days, he visited New York and pledged to get the terrorists as well as the administrations of countries who harbor them. He did. And while Osama bin Laden is still at large, the Taliban has been destroyed and Afghanistan is led by a new regime. To some extent, the war has been a success, but it is still a stressful time for Americans. New warnings that another attack is possibly imminent and could be as bad or worse than September 11th has created a nation where depression is rampant. It is worse for New Yorkers who are reminded of the events more often, but it permeates life throughout the nation, and throughout the world. In their attempt to create terror, the terrorists won. People live in fear of exploding buses, of bombs, of fires and of chemical or biological agents. These fears are the real remnants of 9/11. While the economy is recovering, the psychological damage is much more difficult to change. ...
