Mexico While the "new Beetle" is making a comeback in the U.S., in some parts of the world the Beetle never went away. The old-style bug is still produced in
Mexico, and that is where the new one is being made. Although there have been innumerable cars produced in the last fifty years that are safer and more reliable-3 million
cars later-the "Love Bug"- "the peoples car"- is still the most popular automobile in Mexico where the old-style Beetle is still produced in the city of Pueblo (Eisner, 1993; p.
81). Bugs of various colors and conditions are a common sight scurrying around Mexico as Bugs are definitely the favored car for use as a taxi cab south of the
border. As recently as 1993, the future of the little car in Mexico seemed in doubt as trade barriers dropped and competition with the Beetles prominence in Mexico became more
