The nomadic German tribes held fast to their decidedly more uncivilized ways of life by perpetually overtaking various European territories through barbaric assaults. In some Romans eyes, the Germanic
tribes represented the worst of what stood for all poorly advanced migrant populations; however, others applauded their ability to overcome the need for Roman vices. Roman historian Tacitus was
one such person who believed that the Germanic tribes were far better off for their ignorance than were the Romans, for even though they were known to heavily imbibe in
alcohol and gambling, they still held a great respect for women, asserted considerable courage, as well as were free to 2 live their lives under their own accord (Anonymous romeco~2.htm).
