Spoke Zarathustra" we are presented with a form of epic poetry that seeks to look at the conditions of man as it involves many different perspectives. These perspectives ultimately consider
the development of society in a direction of modernity. In the following paper we discuss the two works separately, examining various elements within, and then present a discussion of the
constant striving of Faust and Zarathustra as it offers up an understanding of both the potential and the dangers of modernity Faust Fausts work is one that is incredibly
complex and detailed as it spells out a sort of journey of one man searching for some answers in life. Like mankind he strives to reach a state of understanding
and through that journey he encounters many things which give rise to doubt, disenchantment, perceptions of love and nature, and essentially all those things which man searches to understand.
Striving We see Fausts need to strive for some understanding in the very opening lines of the first book where he states "I HAVE, alas! Philosophy, Medicine, Jurisprudence too,
And to my cost Theology, With ardent labour, studied through. And here I stand, with all my lore, Poor fool, no wiser than before" (1-6). This essentially sets
the stage for the journey upon Faust will embark. He needs to know that something else can prove enlightening, something other than knowledge which has only led him to a
