and the structures used to achieve efficient operations. A company only survives this long and retains a dominant position if it has been able to overcome adversity and manage its
financing in a way that shareholder appreciate. Where there are weaknesses chances increase of a takeover as seen with other home builders, such as tarmac that is now part of
the Wimpey empire. To examine the company we need to look at the annual accounts. When looking at these there are some
issues that need to be remembered. The accounts give the group results and the parent company, for this paper we are looking at the group results.
It is also worth noting that for accounts prepared after the 1st of January 2005 new regulations were put into place and international accounting standards had
to be used for the reports, prior to this there was the use of UK GAAP. The 2005 and 2004 accounts are presented with the new system older results are
still reported under the UL GAAP system. This can lead to some differences due to the divergence of some accounting standards. Question 1 Part A; Debt
