George Washington, a man who died over two hundred years ago after serving as the first president of the United States, was idealized by our founding fathers as our
presidential model. Washingtons political philosophies differ substantially, however, from many of the philosophies currently being suggested by politicians and political scientists. While the framers of the Constitution may
have held George Washington and his political philosophies as the presidential and political model, this model is no longer supported by our modern political philosophy. Washingtons "Farewell Address" in
many ways seems to recognize that a transition in our political ideology was inevitable. He uses his Farewell Address to warn us of the potential hazards of such a
transition. Washington was fastidious in detailing his philosophies and in exposing those philosophies to an extensive peer review. This fastidiousness is particularly
apparent in his last address to the nation. Indeed Washingtons Farewell Address is the most famous of his speeches. Actually prepared from notes prepared by James Madison some
four years earlier, this address received considerable input from Alexander Hamilton as well. The result of this extensive review process, a process or write and rewrite, are truly phenomenal.
It, perhaps more so than any other document written during that time expresses the political views of George Washington. Judging
solely from Washingtons "Farewell Address" If one were to be able to bring Washington forward in time to the present day he would undoubtedly find many faults with practically every
aspect of government. Washingtons address reveals that he was particularly concerned about the U.S.s relations with European Countries. He specifically cautioned against forming permanent relationships with European entities
