truly successful businessman or politician there are anecdotes of defeat before victory. The story of George Washington in the context of the American Revolution is that he effectively would stay
the course. He led the men to victory, and the victory would be sweet, but it would also be bittersweet. Many men were lost. Also, at the start of the
conflict, success was illusive. At one point, replacing Washington with a more experienced leader was an idea that was bandied about. Still, the idea that the flag would stand, America
would be strong enough to escape British rule and America would become a symbol of freedom is evidence enough that things would become good again. Indeed, today, many people respect
the leaders of the 1700s who made sure that America would not only live to fight another day, but become great in the process. George Washington was one of those
accomplished leaders. George Washington would take the helm, and begin to command the troops in July of 1775 ("American Revolution - George Washington," 2005). He trained 14,000 troops
who were previously untrained ("American Revolution - George Washington," 2005). He would also help in gathering the necessary supplies such as gun powder, and in March of 1776 he
used a cannon from Henry Knox ("American Revolution - George Washington," 2005). He would make a mistake in Brooklyn as he occupied what was deemed to be an untenable position
("American Revolution - George Washington," 2005). The problem in Brooklyn was multitude, and it had been explained that the men were largely untrained and that the discipline was quite lax
(Ellis, 1995). Washington tried his best, but he had lost that battle. Yet, he thought fast and mustered up the courage to at least get his men to a safer
