Some of the technology Orwell described can be seen in today?s world; some of it is on the horizon and will be common in the near future. In that respect,
Orwell?s visions have either become or will become realities. The society as depicted in 1984, regimented, lacking all human dignity, completely controlled by a government, severe cruelly as a matter
of form, living in fear, has not materialized. Historically, 1984 has been viewed as a prediction of the future but, in reality, George
Orwell?s 1984 was not so much a ?prediction? of the future as it was a review and extrapolation of the recent war. Perhaps it was also warning of what could
have happened if Hitler and Nazism had been the victors in World War II. The incidents in the text can be compared directly to the reality of Germany, Lithuania,, Yugoslavia,
