examined. The following paper examines the life and work of George Orwell. The paper begins with a section devoted to his biography, and then provides a section that focuses on
some of the criticisms of George Orwell and his work. Biography George Orwell was actually born Eric Arthur Blair. He "was born in 1903 in the Indian village
of Motihari, which lies near the border of Nepal. At that time India was a part of the British Empire, and Blairs father, Richard, held a post as an agent
in the Opium Department of the Indian Civil Service" (Biography: George Orwell). Georges mother, Ida Mabel Blair, was "the daughter of a French tradesman, was about eighteen years younger than
her husband Richard. Eric had a elder sister called Marjorie" (Biography: George Orwell). Georges family "led a relatively privileged and fairly pleasant life, helping to administer the Empire. The
Blair family was not very wealthy - Orwell later described them ironically as lower-upper-middle class" and "They owned no property, had no extensive investments; they were like many middle-class English
