forties. Generation X, a baby bust generation, followed the boomers. Of course, there is some dispute on the age parameters. Brandt (2008) has the boomer generation pegged as being born
between 1946 and 1960. Of course, with each generation, there is some contention in terms of the time period, but on balance, it is easy to see that attitudes change
with each successive decade. Peer influences are strong. When children grow up, they take the habits and ideas from those who are in their age category. Turner, Mitchell & McLean
(2005) define Generation X as representative of the "over 50 million people born between 1965 and 1978." While boomers are forever tied to their hippie days and yearn for freedom,
those dubbed Gen X are considered slackers. Kurt Cobain had been dubbed their leader and not surprisingly, he lived a hard life that ended in tragedy. Perhaps it is
unfair to characterize the generation in that way, but that is the lore. Generation X is viewed as growing up in a good time where there had been a lot
of money and technology (Turner, Mitchell & McLean, 2005). They are also more independent and accepting of minority groups than their parents generation (Turner, Mitchell & McLean, 2005). Generation Y
would come next. Stephanie Armour (2005) characterizes Generation Y, a generation that is entering the workforce now, as follows: "Theyre young, smart, brash. They may wear flip-flops to the
office or listen to iPods at their desk. They want to work, but they dont want work to be their life." Just how is this generation defined? Perez (2008)
