seniors getting ready to enter their first professional career path who have benefited from the full-range of the computer revolution and the information explosion of the Internet). According to
Dr. Sally Hinders (1999), Director of Career Services, Drake University, Des Moines, notes that the N-Generation is ready to burst onto the employment scene with skills unmatched by past graduates.
"N-Generation students have grown up with the Internet," Hinders said. "They have become used to being surrounded by massive volumes of information. They have learned how to deal with that
effectively and efficiently. Generation N According to Don Tapscott, author of The Digital Economy, co-author of Paradigm Shift, and now Growing Up Digital (1999), the N-generation consists of the 88
million people in the United States and Canada who will be between 2 and 22 in 2000. Tapscott calls this group a "tsunami" (Japanese for tidal wave) that will
force changes in communications, retailing, branding, advertising, education--even the way we build communities. At the core of Growing Up Digital is Tapscotts contention that the N-generation is so technology- and
Net-savvy that instead of a generation gap, theres a "generation lap" in which older generations feel threatened by the N-Gens facility with technology. Kids flash by their parents on
the internet track, lapping them in many areas of daily life. This generation of Net-savvy kids, quite frankly, doesnt trust its parents ability to drive fast enough in the wired
world. Computers and other digital technologies, such as digital cameras, are common place to N-Gen members. They work with them at home, in school, and they use them for entertainment.
