regenerated. In examining this topic, it becomes clear that while there has been a lot of research done on this front, a successful protocol has not be established. There have
been many obstacles along the way in researching this topic. Progress in this area would mean new hope for the afflicted. Because this disease usually affects young males, it will
help parents a great deal as well. Genetic counseling is offered and perhaps potential parents can become alert as to the risks involved in the development of this disease. Yet,
muscular dystrophy baffles doctors and there is little comfort they can give parents who will have to face a lifetime of braces and wheelchairs. The Jerry Lewis Telethon, which first
aired in the 1960s, is somewhat of a mainstay now, but really did bring this disease into the spotlight. Though not extremely rare, some with the worst forms of the
disease die early. They are often not out in public, or at least they do not live an ordinary life, so they are set apart from society. Yet, muscular dystrophy
continues to be problematic as this genetic disease is not preventable and it is only mildly treatable. Certainly, there is no cure. Yet, genetic research does offer hope. Of
