homosexual unions at all. There are those who believe that children should only be raised in heterosexual households while others see nothing wrong with the new trend. On one had,
opponents contend that children of gay parents will be less well adjusted as they will be teased and not have the benefit of both genders as parents. Proponents claim that
gender is socially constructed anyway and that it does not matter. The important thing is that a child is loved and a two parent home--whether straight or gay--is better than
being raised in a single parent home. Another complaint is that children raised in such an environment might vie for the lifestyle itself but others claim that this is nonsense
as people are born either gay or straight and they cannot be something other than who they are. II. Both Sides of the Issue There is a lot
of evidence that gay families do work. One fourteen year old boy named Kyle explains to a reporter: " Im a lot more confident. I dont really care what
people think about my family anymore" (qtd. in Johnson & Piore, 2004). Jaime Kelley (2004) is someone who married a same sex partner and says: "I wanted to have
a big wedding. We had 100 to 150 people-my parents, my extended family, my parents friends. There was support from people who werent even close family or friends. Also, Jen
was three months pregnant" (8). Indeed, they had shopped for a sperm donor and her partner was already pregnant when the couple married (2004). It appears that this budding family
