during the 2004 election and when Kerry called Dick Cheneys daughter a lesbian, there was a price to pay. It seems that the word "lesbian" conjures all sorts of bad
vibrations. It is still a stigma and still used derogatorily. That is why Kerry was criticized. The fact that gay marriage is a hot issue at all suggests that the
United States is not really on par with the rest of the world or that the powers that be are perhaps not listing to the minorities. If black people were
not allowed to sit in the front of the bus or use a white water fountain or get married, the idea that such rules would remain would be unconscionable.
The question as to whether the gay minority constitutes a legitimate minority in the world is paramount. In other countries, gay marriage is now allowed. At least, even if it
is not, the tide is changing. In the United States, it seems that the tide is flowing in the opposite direction. There has even been an attempt to create a
resolution to outright ban gay marriage and not even leave it to the states to decide. In examining gay marriage, there are many questions which arise. II.
