gatekeepers, with the role becoming part of their job or social gatekeepers. Corra and Willer (2002) define a gatekeeper as some one who "controls access to benefits that they do
not own". The benefits may be anything for access to physical resources to the ability to gain knowledge. With this approach
to gate keeping it very apparent that there are the need for formal gatekeepers, to prevent, sensitive or harmful knowledge escaping an organisation, likewise gatekeeper may have the role of
protecting access to a relevant resource which may be a person. Gatekeepers are found in all companies, secretaries are one of the gatekeepers, and preventing callers and visitors getting
through to the person they work for with the screening of calls and visitors. Gatekeepers may also be found at all levels,
form those working in research and develop, who may decide what information they decide to release and that they do not wish to release. The function is not only that
of choosing what to release and what not to release, it is also who to release information or access to resources to (Donohew, 1967). The gatekeeper may operate under a
set of instructions and guidelines, or they may have to make these decisions for themselves based on a large degree of information. One area which may be seen as the
most controversial is that of the media, with the new organization having to make decisions on a daily basis of what should and should not be published. There is
