of the company. 2. Company Background Gate Gourmet is a large independent supplier of airline catering and provisioning services. As worlds largest independent supplier in this market Gate Gourmet
are responsible for more than 200 million meals being served a year, supplied by 101 flight kitchens, located in 26 countries across 5 continents (Gate Gourmet, 2009). The
firm was stated in 1992 by Swissair Catering to provide their own in-flight meals and take advantages of increasing demand for outsourcing. 1992 saw the firm start aided with the
acquisition of Aero-Chef (Gate Gourmet, 2009). As the air industry changed and more firms sought to cut costs the firm expanded
aided by the use of an acquisition strategy, 1994 saw the acquisition of SAS Service Partner, in 1995 there was the acquisition of Varig kitchens, this was a pattern that
continued and aided with the rapid growth, in 1997 British Airways kitchens was acquired and then in 199 a merger took place between Gate Gourmet and Dobbs (Gate Gourmet, 2009).
