Women Had Wings (Garson, 2004). Garson (2004) relays a great deal of information about Oprah, noting that Oprah had to find new routines in order to fit exercise into her
life. Her weight loss, after multiple attempts has been an inspiration for many people. Garson (2004) remarks: "An important effect rarely mentioned is the inspiration of a success story on
many other people, those who accept us as we accept ourselves" (p.129). Garson (2004) writes the life of Oprah in eight chapters, each one providing a focus on Oprahs life,
her relevance to television, her love of books, and how she combated her weight issues. Again, the information is not new because Oprah has been on television for some time
and her fans know much about her through the TV show and her magazine. Little is hidden about Oprah in general, but Garson sheds some light on the significant plights
of this stellar talk show host who had created a billion dollar empire. Certainly, Oprah Winfrey is the most successful female business mogul in the world.
II. Comparison of Oprah with Transformational Characteristics First, it is important to explore the transformational leadership style. Manning (2003) explains that transformational leadership is a style that
is equated with a leaders pattern of interactions that actually serves to make the group more powerful, developed and satisfied. Such leaders nurture their followers. Sometimes there is an inspirational
or charismatic element to it (Manning, 2003). Barling & Turner (2005) note: "A transformational leader will quite naturally see a bigger picture and reach out to the community" (p.25).
