change. His influence was felt in many different areas around the world and his actions affected many. The following paper provides a biography of Nasser and then discusses his roles
in leadership and his influence, for good or bad, on the Arab world. Biography "Nasser was born in Alexandria and was active in Egyptian groups against foreign domination,
while a graduate of the Military Academy. He participated in the 1948 war against Israel in the rank of a major; for several months at the wars end he was
trapped in the so called Faluja pocket, together with his men" (Wikipedia, 2003). Eventually a cease fire arrangement was met and he returned to Egypt. In the year 1952
he led a "military coup against King Farouk I of Egypt. In early 1954, he arrested the leader of the country, general Muhammad Naguib, and on February 25 became the
Egyptian premier" (Wikipedia, 2003). A two short years later and he found himself as the only candidate for president of the country. He thus became the very first president of
