its main one in which to build a potential vineyard. As we werent given a specific grape varietal from which to choose, well go with the chardonnay grape, as chardonnay
wines are very popular. This grape crop is found throughout California, particularly the Napa Valley in the northern part of the state (Chardonnay,
2009). The crop, interestingly enough, made up 40% of the states white varieties that were crushed in 2000 (Chardonnay, 2009). This seems to be a very versatile grape; it
can be found in Californias cooler, coastal regions and in the states warmer, drier interiors (Chardonnay, 2009). Though the grape can thrive in hotter regions, the grape loses its
acidity as it grows closer to becoming ripe (Chardonnay, 2009). This means growers and winemakers in the warmer regions need to keep an eye on both the grapes sugars
and acides (Chardonnay, 2009). Experts point out that this grapes true varietal nature tends to be disguised through excess fermentation, as well
as too much aging and heavy oak handling (Chardonnay, 2009). Theres been a backlash against many of these heavy oak "chards," meaning that California is using oak fermentation more
moderately (Chardonnay, 2009). So is Australia, the location we will target for our vineyard. Chardonnays are known to grow quite well
in a variety of climates, as we mentioned above, though the warm-weather climates require some extra watching. These grapes are small, thin-skinned and fragile, meaning they need to be treated
carefully (Chardonnay Grapes and Wines, 2009). Australias climate is ideal for growing wines, especially areas that have moderate days and cool nights (Chardonnay Grapes and Wines, 2009). If
