One myth we need to get rid of first of all, however, is that globalization is more than about large multinational corporations. Even the small to medium-size business is impacted by globalization - for example, if the small business owner buys a printing cartridge for his printer, the chances are pretty good that parts of that cartridge came from another country. This leads us to another discussion, namely that globalization has an impact on supply chains. The reason why it can be difficult for companies to keep an eye on human rights violations on third- and fourth-tier suppliers is because those suppliers deep in the supply chain are in different areas of the world, where certain cultural scenarios are not considered as taboo as they might be in other nations. Then we had the granddaddy of globalizations impact on organizations when the subprime housing crisis of the mid-2000s plunged the United States into an economic morass - only to be followed by other countries. The reason here was two-fold: First, international banks exposure to toxic mortgages, and second, dwindling demand for exports.
