why, in may cases, organizational leadership can have an impact on behavior. External forces can also exert their influence - during times of economic downturns, for example, organizations are going
to behave differently than, say, when the economy is booming. Another factor that has had a huge impact on organizational behavior is globalization.
There are obvious reasons for this; globalization, by its very nature, tends to bring an organization from homogeneity into more of a diverse climate. The organization that doesnt change its
behavior to adapt is an organization that will likely not succeed in this brave new world of internationalism. There has been enough research
done on the concept to point out that changes in organizations that plan to compete on a global level is necessary. But what is missing, in many cases, is how
this can happen. Raz (2009) reminds us that while cross-cultural organizational development and change is typically studied with the
big picture in mind, a better way to influence organizational culture is to do so by taking into account global corporate culture and national cultures. What tends to interfere with
such methods, however, is a lack of specific and standard organizational procedures, as well as a lack of mutual trust, cultural alignment and leadership training (Raz, 2009).
Bianco (2009), talking in a safety context, points out that leadership needs to take responsibility for any kind of culture; given that the leader sets
the tone for how the organization must act. Furthermore, the organizations sustainability and effectiveness will depend on local things, such as custom, language and culture (Bianco, 2009).
