name Global Tech. The company, which was originally founded as an electronics operation company servicing assembly needs of high-tech manufacturers in the Ottawa area in the early 1970s, finds itself
in trouble by the 1990s. Despite hiring an engineer to help with R&D into developing marketing products for the commercial sector, and despite working to build marketing expertise and channels
of distribution, the company found itself in the position of having to lay off employees and reduce departmental budgets. Change management, through persuasion, is called for here.
The following provides an example of interviews with some of the companies main players, as well as some strategic moves that can be made to
save the company. Interviewing Executives The first step of any type of change is to get an idea of what the "higher-ups"
believe should be done (Kaplan and Norton, 2006). The following are examples of potential comments offered by some of the main players.
The chairman of the board and president/CEO will probably want to go back to the drawing board, not necessarily to scuttle what made Global Tech great in the first place,
but how to build on the foundation that was created in the 1970s, and how to play on the companys brand identity and longevity. They will likely stress the advantage
of these two factors in a marketing campaign. The toughest job will go to the VP of technology, who must continue to
find cutting-edge projects to help propel the projects line into new markets. Her comments will likely focus on such strategies such as joint venturing with other manufacturing firms.
