This is why shippers and software vendors have banded together to help "champion because of electronic trade (Bradley et al, 2001). The group they formed, the Global Electronic Trade
Alliance (GETA) was formed as an advocacy organizations to help promote the interests of those who use e-commerce before federal lawmakers and regulators (Bradley et al, 2001).
One of the issues faced by data and members is one of the reasons why the association was formed in the first place. According
to founder Robert Pisani, software vendors were facing similar regulatory issues, were so busy selling their products, they werent aware of laws or regulations (Bradley et al, 2001). GETA not
only helps these vendors become familiar with current issues, it provides them with an advocacy tool and representation when it comes to legislation.
At GETAs annual symposium during January 2003, the main issue identified was counterterrorism and its impact on e-commerce (GETA, 2003). As such, the symposium, entitled "Securing Your International Supply
Chain," dealt with issues as to how businesses could best secure this supply chain against any threat of terrorism (GETA, 2003). As such, the symposium included workshops and panels including
"A Global Approach and Industry Best Practices," "Enabling Technologies in Support of Supply Chain Security: New Tools for a New World," and "Global Trade Management Solutions" (GETA, 2003).
The symposium also relied on C-TPAT, discussing how that could help those working within e-commerce to better secure their supply chain systems (GETA, 2003).
