workforce, or both. The reason why women were kept out of the workforce and "forced" to be "slaves" to their families, cried the feminists, was because of the prejudice of
men. Men considered that women were the "weaker sex" and should therefore be protected and safe and kept at home. But even
with the strides that women have made in society, there is still a definite division in families when it comes to duties and gender. Basically, women are still responsible for
the bulk of the housework, while men are not. This is the case, even if women work outside the home. Why
this unfairness? Is it because men are selfish slobs and uncaring about the fact that their wives are working twice as hard as they are? Not really -- its interesting
to note that sometimes women, though they might complain about their work load at home, are reluctant to hand over some of it to their men. It has nothing to
do with anything more other than programming. In sociology, this could be said to be an example of structural functionalism. In this
paper, well examine the structural-functional paradigm and determine how it pertains to the role of gender in the family. Well then examine the literature to learn if the idea of
