Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 9 page paper examines the use of fuzzy logic in computer systems with special attention its use with fuzzy logic controllers (FLC). The development of fuzzy logic is shown with a three stage model and the value of neural networks to help system learning is discussed. The bibliography cites 8 sources.

strong method of reasoning when we consider the ambiguity of language rules. In reality if we look at logic it is only able tell us if language rules have been
breached and not to define the truth of any situation (Rosenstein, 2004). It is when we look at the aspect of strict logic that the theoretical role of fuzzy logic
becomes clearer. Strict logic is typified by Aristotelian logic which analyses statements that are short (Rosenstein, 2004). However, in a computer system or any system, it is not short
sentences that need to have their truth ascertained, but chains of reasoning (Rosenstein, 2004). Thus is one limitation, but it is not the only limitation, this type of logic also
relies on exact statements that can be determined as true or false (Rosenstein, 2004). If we apply this to the real world and areas where there may need to
be controls, one example seen in theory and practice is the control of a thermostat. If we look at how this is seen when an individual will state the temperature
is 25 degree centigrade, they do not mean it is exactly that temperature, only that it is approximately that temperature (Rosenstein, 2004). However even with this there is no any
exactness as this does not mean that it is plus or minus 2 or 3 degrees (Rosenstein, 2004). If Aristotelian logical is applied to such as statement it will be
forced to find it is false. This also means that concepts such as the temperature being too cold or too hot are unable to be dealt with as these are
inexact statements (Rosenstein, 2004). However, fuzzy logical can take up this gap as any particular data poet may belong to more than one group and as such control may be
