which make trends apparent. The article first addresses the problem of the salary gap. There is also another gap that the author calls the communication/information gap. This is the difference
between those who have computers and Internet access and those who do not. Another noticeable trend that might have an impact on the future is that downsizing is still a
part of the picture. Companies are getting rid of baggage and entrepreneurs are beginning to emerge, often by necessity. In other words, people cannot depend upon large corporations to fund
their lives anymore. And while some of the trends are dismal, the author notes that this last one, the one that creates jobs in smaller niches and firms, and does
not depend on corporate giants, is somewhat positive. Yet, the author insists that these new types of jobs require different skills and that schools should teach these. The idea that
schools are ignoring the trends that make up society is what is highlighted in this piece. In many ways, the author is correct. He is right on target when
he speaks of the notion that schools are ignoring trends. They live in the dark ages where computer technology is only embraced at a slow speed and the facilities are
still run with the nine to five ideology in mind. In other words, while it is now known that the bodies of teenagers mature in such a way as
to render their biological clock resistant to getting up early in the day, many high schools open their doors at about seven oclock in the morning. With the Internet, new
