had a chequered history. In the firm was owned by Akzo Nobel, in 2008, it was sold as part of the approval requirements for Akzo to acquire ICI (Bounds, 2010).
Crown Paints was a small unit within a multinational and it was only after being sold to Endless, (a private equity group), that the firm started to receive significant investment,
in excess of ?8 million, including equipment, marketing and the opening of shops (Bounds, 2010). This marked the turnaround point, Endless gained Crown Paints in September 2008, and in the
last financial quarter the firm made an operating loss of ?11.4 million (Bounds, 2010). By 2009 the firm was back ion profit with an operating profit of ?2.8 million (Bounds,
2010). This increased to ?81 billion in 2010 (Bounds, 2011). The firm has been able to gain a 15% share of the
UK market and has become an attractive company, leading to the sale of the firm to a new equity firm in June 2011 (Bounds, 2011). Crown Paints owned by Hempel,
a Danish firm that supplies a wide range of paints and related items to a number of markets, including decorative, but also yacht, container and marine markets in more than
80 countries. Hempel is pursuing a growth strategy and Crown Paints was seen as a good fit. Therefore the way that the
