The balance sheet for Fuller Hospital shows some areas where there have been some significant shifts, with strong indicators that the firm may have had a challenging year, with a shift in level underlying capital structure which sees the debt ratio increase from 0.39 in 2008 to 0.78 in 2009 (calculation in appendix 2 ). However, to examine this we need to look at the balance sheet in the different section to assess where there have been changes which may give us some insight into the potential influences. However, without the income statement and ability to see the profit and loss accounts this is limited. Overall, the current assets do not appear to have shown any overall significant change the total impact sees a decline of only 0.87%. However, when looking at the underlying figures there are some interesting trends. The total cash and cash equivalents has decreased significantly, falling by 45.06%, this may indicate cash flow issues, but it may also indicate increased efficiently in the use of capital, as generally cash and cash equivalents, although needed, are not efficient revenue generation tools. Therefore, efficient cash and cash equivalents needs to be present to maintain liquidity, but can also be wasteful. The decline in cash level may also be the result of some debt repayment, with the cash ready at the end of 2008 to pay off the debts during 2009. The assets of limited use also show a significant decline, falling by 34.07%.
