communicates his theme. It also analyzes the poem technically. Discussion The theme and how Frost communicates it: Poetry is not like any other form of writing. This might seem like
a glimpse of the obvious, but it bears repeating, just because it seems so simple. Unlike a writer working on a paper, novel, screenplay or story, where he or she
has unlimited space to make their point, a poet chooses every word to convey meaning. He also places them in order with care; he doesnt have the luxury to follow
up a sentence with another one that starts, "In other words..." What this all comes down to is that when Frost or any other poet uses a strange construction or
picks an unfamiliar word, its not a mistake. When he says "long I stood" instead of the more familiar "I stood there a long time," he has done so for
a reason. The theme of the poem is that choices have consequences and that sometimes, the choice is irrevocable. We face choices every day and most are trivial: are we
going to see "Spiderman" or "300"? Cook or eat out? While there is some stress in making these choices, ultimately they are not overwhelming, because they come with options: we
can choose to see "300" now because Gerry Butlers incredibly hot, but we also know that "Spiderman" will be playing next week. Likewise, the DVD we buy today doesnt mean
that we cant go back and buy the CD tomorrow. But this isnt the sort of choice Frost is considering: he is talking about the unalterable choice, the one from
