in the end, the argument is good and the judge agrees to hear the case. Of course, this scenario actually draws from real life situations where lawsuits are waged against
corporate giants. Two well known cases are the widely publicized lawsuit against McDonalds when an elderly woman incurred burns from her steaming hot coffee, and the one against a
dry cleaners for several millions of dollars. Although it may be the case that these lawsuits do make it to court, and provide a nice settlement for plaintiffs, there has
been a backlash against frivolous lawsuits. As a result, business is hindered. Owners fear reprisal for any accident or omission. In delving into this important issue, the well publicized noted
cases will be explored. The McDonalds Coffee Case Many are familiar with the case from what was reported in media, but there are many facts
that have not been widely discussed in respect to the coffee lawsuit. As a result, the case appears frivolous on a surface level, but the true facts reveal McDonalds true
colors and why this elderly woman received such a large award. The facts of the case are that Stella Liebeck, a 79 year old woman, endured serious burns after she
spilled a cup of coffee on her lap ("Stella Liebeck & McDonalds Coffee," n.d.). The incident took place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in February of 1992 ("Stella Liebeck & McDonalds
